conferinte madeincluj

Invitati:

– Iván Tosics (1952) is sociologist and urban researcher. He is one of the directors of the small urban think-tank ‘Metropolitan Research Institute’ in Budapest. tosics@mri.hu

PICTURES AND STORIES ABOUT URBAN TRANSITION IN EASTERN CENTRAL EUROPE IN THE LAST TWO DECADES

Iván Tosics sociologist, urban researcher

The presentation aims to illustrate the transition of socialist cities into something what we can call „post-socialism”.

This transition will be illustrated by several stories:

• The rehabilitation of residential buildings in the old inner-city areas: privatisation or renovation first?

• The large prefabricated housing estates and how could their problems be solved

• From dense and well functioning public transport to congested car-dominated city – and back

• The many faces of shopping: from socialist shops through individual efforts to shopping malls

• A special case of transition: the Eastern part of Germany – old residential areas and large housing estates in shrinking cities

These stories will cover many of the post socialist countries and will be illustrated with many pictures.
